Improve your understanding of global citizenship education in TVET environments.

Internationally TVET organizations are challenged to ensure all learners acquire the knowledge, skills and attitudes needed to promote “sustainable development”. This includes, education for sustainable lifestyles, gender equality, appreciation of cultural diversity and of culture’s contribution to sustainable development - global citizenship. In thie sampler course you will be challenged to reflect on the current educational practices in TVET and ask if these practices meet all learners needs.

Explore educational theories encouraging global citizenship and cultural awareness.

In non-European countries and indigenous communities there is an increasing recognition that adoption of advanced technical knowledge, based on Western “pedagogical” approaches, could lead to the erosion of the learner’s cultural-self - that set of values, rules of behaviour, ways of knowing, ways of engaging that shapes and influences the way they act. During the this course you will actively explore transformative approaches to education and the importance of culture in stimulating learner engagement, motivation and success.

Becoming a reflective practitioner

During this course you will be encouraged to be reflective practitioner and will be guided by a triple-loop reflective cycle. This reflective cycle challenges you to examine and re-examine you conceptions of teaching, learning, assessment and the curriculum from individual, institutional and international perspectives.
