Nelson Marlborough Institute of Technology (NMIT) was established in the northern South Island of New Zealand in 1905. Today, NMIT is a comprehensive, government owned institute designated as the primary deliverer of higher-level education to the region. NMIT delivers applied programmes up to master’s degree level, and all of these programmes of study are developed and delivered with an ethos of preparing you for the world of work. NMIT is a Category 1 institution, the highest national ranking given by the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA). NMIT programme areas include: Aquaculture and Marine Conservation, Arts and Media, Business, Civil Engineering, Conservation, Cookery and Hospitality, Counselling and Social Work, Digital Technology, English Language, Fitness, Health and Nursing, Horticulture, Maritime Studies, Tourism and Hospitality, and Viticulture and Winemaking. NMIT’s main campus is located in Nelson, one of the sunniest regions of New Zealand. The city of Nelson is surrounded by stunning natural landscapes which, along with the nice climate, draw tourists from all around the world. NMIT’s Marlborough campus is home to a specialized viticulture and winemaking programme. The Marlborough region produces 78% of New Zealand’s wine grapes and has exported some of the world’s leading Sauvignon Blanc wines. The Marlborough wine industry has been innovating and producing sustainable solutions to environmental problems, these solutions will be presented in the NMIT course on sustainability in the wine industry.
